Our Faith

We affirm the Christian faith as presented in the historic creeds of the early church, and shared in common today with Christians across many different denominations and expressions, including the Apostles’ Creed:

Our Faith Chrish Church Cathedral

I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died and was buried;
he descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again;
he ascended into heaven,
he is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and he will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.

Christ Church Cathedral is the diocesan cathedral of the Church of Ireland Dioceses of Dublin and Glendalough.

The Church of Ireland is a member Church of the Anglican Communion, a family of independent Churches in full communion with each other and with the See of Canterbury.

Our pattern of worship and prayer is formed by The Book of Common Prayer. In keeping with the monastic roots of Christ Church Cathedral, we continue in the present day to preserve a rhythm of daily morning and evening prayer, both said and sung services. The cathedral Eucharist each Sunday morning, sung by our choir, is a highlight of our liturgical week for our cathedral community. We keep the seasons of the liturgical year, and observe holy days, saints’ days and other festivals that mark the church’s year.

We value both ecumenical and interfaith engagement and look for opportunities to make the cathedral space a place of welcome and dialogue.

People of all faiths and none are most welcome to attend and participate in our cathedral services.

Information on a variety of points of doctrine within the Church of Ireland are helpfully summarised on the APCK (the Association for Promoting Christian Knowledge) website should you wish to explore further.
