ADVENT 2024 PREACHING SERIES Women and Nativity
This year’s Advent Preaching Series focuses on four women in scripture whose stories tell of birth and motherhood, of their own faith and their nurturing of faith in a new generation, and in particular of a child who would grow to be a spiritual leader of great significance. We meet Sarah, the mother of Isaac in Advent 1, Hannah the mother of Samuel in Advent 2, Elizabeth the mother of John the Baptist in Advent 3 and Mary the mother of Jesus in Advent 4. Each of our preachers is a woman who balances ministry responsibilities with family care work.
Živa Newman: Advent 1, Sunday 1st Dec 2024
Živa was commissioned as the Diocesan Lay Reader in June 2024 after many years of service in her own parish in a variety of roles. She serves in her home parish of Clontarf as well as supporting a number of other parishes in north Dublin. Živa is the Director of Fundraising and Communications in the Christian overseas organisation World Vision Ireland, serving the most vulnerable children in the most difficult places helping to overcome poverty and experience the fullness of life. Živa lives with her two sons in North Dublin.
Caroline Tindal: Advent 2, Sunday 8th Dec 2024
Caroline was commissioned as a Diocesan Lay Reader in May 2004 and has been attached to the parishes of Newcastle and Newtownmountkennedy with Calary for over 20 years. One of her motivations in exploring lay ministry was her desire to be able to do more to support the parish rector. Caroline is now retired from a very busy life of driving trucks all around Ireland and running a self-catering holiday business in her native Co. Wicklow. She says that many a sermon was composed as she drove the highways and byways of Ireland!
Dee Huddleston: Advent 3, Sunday 15th Dec 2024
Dee was commissioned as a Diocesan Lay Reader in 2022 after serving in her local parish in many roles including Sunday school leader, a church warden and a member of the Select Vestry. Since her commissioning, she has been kept busy with preaching and leading services, both in her own parish and in the wider Diocese and is enjoying every moment of this new ministry as part of her continuing faith journey. Dee has lived with her family in Straffan, Co. Kildare for almost thirty years.
