Linda Chambers works for The United Society in Ireland. Her feet are used to the protection of socks, slippers, shoes and boots and she is uncomfortable in bare feet. The pupils in the primary schools of Swaziland have much tougher feet; they walk many miles barefoot, in all kinds of weather, and over all sorts of terrain. They have no socks, slippers, shoes or boots.
In solidarity with them, and to raise funds for Swazi schools, Linda plans to go barefoot for Holy Week. During Holy Week, Christ Church Cathedral will be supporting Linda Chambers this venture, so at services on Palm Sunday and Maundy Thursday there will be retiring collections. Linda Chambers will be at the Maundy Thursday Eucharist in the cathedral at 6pm when she will have her feet washed by the Dean. The Anglican community in Swaziland appreciate the gesture of solidarity, and some of them will join Linda.
Any money raised here will be used by the Diocese of Swaziland Board of Education for the benefit of the Anglican Schools; 23 primary and 4 secondary. They need help with water supply, electricity supply, teachersâ housing and teaching resources.
