Today we welcome Kingwood Chorale to perform a lunchtime recital at 13:30. Admission is included in the regular cathedral entry.
The Kingwood Chorale, under the baton of Artistic Director and Conductor Todd Miller, has truly fulfilled its vision to enrich the cultural arts of the greater Northeast Houston and beyond with quality classical choral music concerts. For 35 years the Chorale has sung many standard choral-orchestral masterworks in the repertoire while also championing new choral works by American composers. In residence at Lone Star College-Kingwood since 1996, the Chorale has regularly performed masterpieces such as the Brahms Requiem and the Verdi Requiem in multiple locales across North Houston to large, appreciative audiences while also regularly performing audience favorites like the Mozart Requiem and Handel Messiah. Funded by the Lake Houston Musical Arts Society, the Chorale has helped college students experience music at home and abroad for over a generation.
The Lone Star College-Kingwood music department celebrates 30 years in 2024, and choral singing has been a strength since the founding of the program. The LSC-K Concert Choir is the main choir for music majors and members are included in this touring choir with the Kingwood Chorale. The Concert Choir primarily performs short works from various historical periods but also features new choral music with culturally relevant themes.
Together, this composite choir from the Northeast Houston (Texas) Metro Area is thrilled to perform music from local and regional American composers on this tour of Ireland. By design, some repertoire is chosen that has a connection to Ireland.
Todd Miller is the founding music faculty member of Lone Star College-Kingwood and serves and the Chair of Visual and Performing Arts. He conducts three choirs at the college: The Kingwood Chorale, the Concert Choir, and Eclectic Voices of Kingwood (Evōk). Evōk is celebrating its tenth season, and during that time has toured widely in the U.S. and has multiple times served as the back-up choir for Houston tour stops for Michael Bublé, Josh Groban and Sarah Brightman. Dr. Miller is also a classical tenor and has sung featured solos with many professional ensembles, including the Houston Symphony and the Houston Chamber Choir. He made his Carnegie Hall debut in 2009.
