Oktavia Vokal is a Norwegian women’s choir led by our music director, Ruth Otelie Nonseid. Our vocal ensemble consists of 35 members and features the four female voice types: soprano, mezzo-soprano, alto, and contralto.
We are committed to continuous growth as a choir, constantly challenging ourselves with a focus on rhythm, groove, and improvisation. During our weekly rehearsals, we regularly work on enhancing our vocal skills through exercises that engage the voice, breath, and body.
Over the years, we have maintained a core repertoire, which we evolve into different concert experiences by incorporating new arrangements in various settings. These arrangements are tailored to fit specific themes, such as the coastal life of Norway or the works of a particular composer. For our concerts, we often collaborate with professional musicians who bring their unique talents to enrich the musical experience.
Many of our members have been with the choir since its inception nearly 20 years ago. We deeply value the musical and social camaraderie that fosters a strong sense of belonging and friendship.
