A special treat this New Year’s Eve afternoon – a lunchtime recital performed by the Pure Sound Youth Choir from Houston, Texas at 13:30.
Admission to the recital is included in the usual cathedral entry.
Pure Sound Youth Choir is a mainstay of the Music and Fine Arts program at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Houston, TX, and serves as the worship choir regularly at the 8:30am Sunday service. Comprised of hard working and dedicated 6th through 12th graders, these singers follow in the footsteps of young people who have sung since the choir was founded in 1996. The choir tours every other year, just after Christmas, and destinations have been foreign and domestic, from Alaska to Cuba, Scotland to San Francisco. On alternate years, the choir traditionally presents Vivaldi’s Gloria on Christmas Eve, along with scores of alumni singers who return for the event. In addition, they present a major musical every spring, and those shows have included everything from “Oklahoma” and “Guys and Dolls,” “The Little Mermaid,” and their 2024 offering, “The Drowsy Chaperone.” Under the direction of founder, Sid Davis, these young singers change the world each and every week with their unparalleled service.
Sid Davis is Director of Music and Fine Arts at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, Houston, where he oversees a robust program including music for children, youth, adults, the Rotunda Theater/Tapestry Players, and Rotunda Art Gallery. He enjoys collaborating with major artists throughout the year including Conspirare, VOCES8, and Howard Goodall. A published composer/arranger, Sid is a Melodious Accord Fellow, studying under Alice Parker. Touring with Fred Waring’s Pennsylvanians as a soloist and instrumentalist after graduating from Centenary College of Louisiana, he furthered his studies at the University of North Texas. Sid resides in Houston with wife, Cindy.
