A 25 singers strong choir, directed by Matthew Gaulin.
The Queensbury Madrigals place an emphasis on high caliber performances of quality a cappella literature representative of different time periods and musical styles not exclusive to madrigals including: jazz, spirituals, folk songs, and contemporary music. Over the years, the Queensbury Madrigal Singers have been received in performance venues throughout Europe and in the United States. Most recently they have performed in London. Locally, the Madrigal Singers are in high demand, giving approximately thirty performances each year to various school and community organizations. Matthew Gaulin has been the musical director since the fall of 2016.
The Queensbury High School Madrigal Singers was formed in 1979 to provide music enrichment opportunities for young musicians in the high school. The auditioned group of sophomores, juniors and seniors meets several mornings per week at 7:00 a.m. before school begins, and one evening each week. Many of these young singers participate in NYSSMA solo festivals each year as well as sing with All-County, Area All-State and All-State ensembles. Many are active in other musical functions within the community and several alumni have gone on to very successful music careers.
Matthew Gaulin is currently the Choral Director at Queensbury High School where he directs two curricular choirs and the Queensbury High School Madrigal Singers. He holds a B.M. in Music Education from the Crane School of Music with a concentration in Voice and Choral Music and an M.S. in Curriculum Development and Instructional Technology from SUNY Albany.
