Today Dr. Gary Cobb, Organist Professor Emeritus Pepperdine University will perform an organ recital from 13:30-14:30.

Gary Cobb is Professor Emeritus of Music at Pepperdine University in Malibu, California (USA). His career as a professor at Pepperdine spanned 42 years. He holds bachelor, master, and doctoral degrees in music from Texas Tech University and has done additional study at the University of Iowa and New York University. He also holds certificates in executive management from Claremont Graduate University and fund-raising management from Indiana University. He has 37 years of experience as the institutional representative from Pepperdine for the National Association of Schools of Music. Professor Cobb is active as a church musician, as well, having been an organist in various churches for 50 years. He is currently the organist for Trinity Presbyterian Church in Camarillo, California. He has also active in the Los Angeles area as president of the Thousand Oaks Philharmonic. He has performed as organist and pianist locally, nationally, and internationally in such venues as the Cathedral of St. George in Jerusalem, the Church of Santa Maria dei Ricci in Florence, the Church of St. Giles in Prague, and Coventry Cathedral. The recital at Coventry Cathedral featured the world premiere of a commissioned work by fellow Pepperdine faculty member Lincoln Hanks on themes of peace and reconciliation. Other performances have included two recitals in Wittenberg at the Castle Church as part of a summer of celebration of the Protestant Reformation and the Basilica of St. Mark’s in Venice.
Professor Cobb began his piano study with Samuel F. Pendleton, a student of Tobias Matthay in London. He later studies with William A. Murphy. His college study was with Professor Louis Catuogno at Texas Tech University. While pursuing a doctorate at Texas Tech, he began organ study with Professor Lee Rigsby, a visiting professor, and Dean Emeritus of the Ohio State University School of Fine Arts.
Professor Cobb is a member of the American Guild of Organists, presently serving as dean of the Ventura Chapter of the AGO. He is also a member of the College Music Society, the Music Teachers Association of California, the American Bach Society, the American Matthay Association, Pi Kappa Lambda, Phi Kappa Phi, and Phi Eta Sigma
