Tenebrae is the Latin word for ‘darkness’ or ‘shadows’. Tenebrae is an ancient service of the Church which takes place during the ‘Triduum’, the three holy days before Easter. The service is simple. The reading of scripture, the gradual extinguishing of candles, the playing of sacred music, interspersed with silence, creates a sacred place where one can reflect and meditate.
