Treasures of Christ Church Cathedral Dublin
A new exhibition in our crypt marks the publication of Treasures of Christ Church Cathedral Dublin. With beautiful new photography, this book tells the 1000-year story of Christ Church through a selection of fascinating objects from the cathedral collection.
From Viking boxes to medieval manuscripts, mummified animals to elaborate stone carvings, these objects connect us to the cathedral’s past in a direct and tangible way. They remind us of the centuries of skilled craftsmanship that contributed to the creation of Christ Church and the many different people who have passed through this extraordinary place.
This exhibition offers the chance to see some of the objects from the book and view a selection of our incredible archival photographs of Christ Church in the 19th century. Admission to the exhibition is included in the usual cathedral entry.
Treasures of Christ Church Cathedral Dublin is available to purchase from our gift shop.

From Medieval to Digital: An Exhibition of Digital Paintings & Character Designs at Christ Church Cathedral
From Medieval to Digital: An Exhibition of Digital Paintings & Character Designs at Christ Church Cathedral, Dublin
by students of the BTEC Higher National Diploma course in Classical & Computer Animation from Ballyfermot College of Further Education in Dublin.
13th-27th January 2025
The Animation students from Ballyfermot College of Further Education and Training, were briefed to design backgrounds and characters based on a site visit to Christ Church Cathedral. The students produced visual research based on the architecture of this historical building. Their work was further developed as Background Designs suitable for an animated film. Working initially with traditional media on site and then through digital painting techniques, the students’ work captures the special atmosphere at the Cathedral, taking us on a journey from Medieval to Digital. The students’ own historical research influenced the style and content of their work.
The second part of this project required the students to produce Character Designs based on personalities from around the 16th Century. The resulting Designs show a range of characters from royalty to clergy, peasants, animals and even some fantasy characters.
This is an exhibition of work by final year students of the BTEC Higher National Diploma course in Classical & Computer Animation from Ballyfermot College of Further Education in Dublin. This project formed part of the Visual Communications module on the Higher National Diploma in Classical and Computer Animation.
Admission to the exhibition is included in the usual cathedral entry.
