A lunchtime lecture series on Thursdays in April 2026, 1.10pm to be held upstairs in the chapter house, Christ Church Cathedral, Dublin.
April is, very much, Handel month in Dublin, the anniversary of Messiah premiere (13th) on Fishamble Street, beside Christ Church, with, this year the annual Irish Baroque Orchestra Handelfest at Dublin Castle (10th-12th). To frame this, a series of lectures will take place in the Chapter House, by leading researchers. Triona O’Hanlon (9th) gained her doctorate on key links between charitable bodies and music-making. Adrian Le Harivel (16th) brings reminder that Handel spent 9 months in the city, with two concert series of oratorios. Stuart Kinsella (23rd) underlines the important role of the vicars choral and choristers from both cathedral and Michael Lee (30th), editor of Musicology magazine, offers the wider context of music in city at time, by Irish and Italian composers.
