The Kirker Choir, featuring choir master Christopher Monckton; Melvyn Tan, piano; Doric String Quartet; Anna Huntley, mezzo-soprano; James Baillieu, piano and Simon Rowland-Jones, viola will perform a lunchtime recital on Wednesday, June 25th at 1.15pm.
We are delighted to welcome the Kirker Choir to Christ Church Cathedral to perform selected arias and choruses from Handel’s Messiah. Kirker are currently on board a cruise holiday entitled ‘The Kirker Classical Music Festival at Sea. There are musical performances daily on the ship and Dublin will be the only performance that does not take place on board. After departing Dover on the 16th they visited St Peter’s Port in Guernsey to spend some time in the historical town and a selection of private gardens. They then cruised up the Irish Sea to Tobermory on the Isle of Mull and passed Fingal’s Cave, a dramatic sea cave on the uninhabited island of Staffa formed in the same way as the Giant’s Causeway. They then stopped off at Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis and Kirkwall in the Orkney Islands. After a trip to Killybegs in Donegal where they toured Castle Coole, a stunning 18th Century mansion surrounded by woodlands, they made their way around the Antrim Coast. After arriving in Belfast there was a trip to Mount Stewart House and Gardens, previous residence of the Marquesses of Londonderry. Their last port of call will be Dublin where Christ Church Cathedral will host the Kirker Choir’s only land-based performance before heading back to Dover.
The recital will last approximately 45 minutes and admission is included in the normal cathedral entry fee. Make sure you get here early as this is not an event to be missed!
