The Magic of Music is a musical programme that Christ Church Cathedral runs for primary schools in the area. An important part of the cathedral’s outreach programme and is an original way to get primary school children interested in music. The programme, which is provided free to schools, is aimed at children, teachers, principals and parents and has been running successfully in Ireland since 2004.
The programme is based on the New Revised Primary Music curriculum aimed at children of all age groups. No musical experience is required from the adults or the children to take part.
This fun and energetic class allows children to develop their performance skills and enhance their creativity. The facilitators’ infectious enthusiasm will have the children enthralled from the beginning. The enjoyment they will gain from this class will last a lifetime and aims to increase a child’s confidence by participation in different exercises including drama, art, musical performance and making instruments. It also allows children to experience all kinds of music including classical, traditional Irish, rock, jazz, gospel etc and helps to obtain basic musical literacy that will have a lasting effect on their interest in music.
Teachers will feel more empowered to be creative in the classroom with their music ideas and make links between music and other subjects. Each teacher will receive a set of class plans and songs and music to use in their own music lessons with the children.
The class can cover a range of modules for any age group ranging from the history of one particular genre to music through to the ages.
