Following the critical and popular success of their recent Ireland’s Golden Age programme in both Ireland and Austria, the Irish Baroque Orchestra are delighted to bring Towards Enlightenment to audiences in Christ Church Cathedral Dublin.
The orchestra will be led by Roy Goodman who makes a very welcome return to Ireland with a programme that reflects the mood of the enlightenment period: the reform of society, the promotion of reason and advancements through scientific method.
In exploring this time of transition between the Baroque and early Classical styles, the Irish Baroque Orchestra is delighted to have the opportunity to perform some rare and intriguing works by CPE Bach, Quantz and Kirnberger which will be presented alongside Haydn’s beautiful Horn Concerto in D Major.
Known for his work with the English Chamber Orchestra, the European Union Baroque Orchestra, and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra Chorus, Roy Goodman has worked as guest conductor with over 120 orchestras & opera companies worldwide – from Carnegie Hall in New York to the Royal Albert Hall Proms in London, and from Berlin Philharmonic Hall to the Sydney Opera House. Also joining the orchestra will be accomplished period horn player Anneke Scott and early flautist Lisa Beznosiuk, whose tone is described as“warmest, woodiest and most alluring of them all” (BBC Music Magazine).
The Irish Baroque Orchestra is like no other group performing in Ireland today. Under the inspirational artistic direction of Monica Huggett and driven by the belief that the best things in life stand the test of time, the orchestra allows Irish audiences to experience the beauty of baroque music as it was intended to be heard. Now resident at the National Concert Hall, the Irish Baroque Orchestra is generously funded by the Arts Council and also receives support from Dublin City Council.
