Christ Church Cathedral is pleased to host many talented musicians for lunchtime concerts in July and August.
These concerts include:
July 12th:
Sanctuary Choir and Orchestra, an American ensemble that will be performing Hymns and Gospels along with various classical pieces.
July 19th:
Concert 1 will take place at 1:15pm and features the West Virginia University Alumni Wind Symphony performing âMy Nation, My Heritageââ¬Â, a series of classical and folk pieces conducted by Don Wilcox. The symphony has toured all over Europe, in countries such as France, Germany, Belgium, the United Kingdom, and many others. Concert 2 will take place at 3pm and features Raphaela Mangan, mezzo-soprano, and Niall Kinsella, piano, performing a selection of classical songs and arias. Mangan received a First Class Honours Degree from the Conservatory of Music and Drama, DIT, and then graduated from Flanders Opera Studio in Belgium. She has sung as a chorister and a soloist with Opera Ireland, Lyric Opera, and Scottish Opera, among others. Kinsella is a pianist and a conductor who received his bachelor of music from UCD, and then a MA in Music from the National University of Ireland, Maynooth. He is the current director of Carlow Choral Society.
July 22nd:
Archie Chen, an American pianist, will be performing pieces by Mozart, Liszt, Chopin and Ginestra. He was the First Prize winner of the Bradshaw and Buono International Piano Competition, and has performed in concert venues all over the world as well as recorded for live television and radio programmes.
July 28th:
Madrigalchor Aachen, a German choir that will be performing various hymns and songs by composers such as Johannes Mangon and Gloria Hans Leenders.
July 29th:
The Portuguese pianist Ana Margarida Silva will be performing pieces by Schubert, Schumann and Chopin. She has been both a chamber musician and a soloist in Portuguese concerts, and currently is a member of the piano duet, DueAna with Ana Luisa Monteiro.
August 9th:
‘A Choired Taste’ a Scottish choir that will be performing sacred and folk music.
August 14th:
The Young Dublin Symphonia, a string ensemble comprised of students ages 12-21, directed by Bjarke Gunderson. The ensemble was founded 1988 and has travelled to Italy, Denmark and Norway, among other countries, to perform.
Kindly note that admission to these concerts is included in the regular admission fee for the cathedral: €6 for adults, €4.50 for students and seniors, and €2 for children. All concerts begin at 1:15pm unless otherwise noted.
