Starting tomorrow, Friday 21st April, conference season continues with a fascinating look at ‘Music in Ireland: 1916 & Beyond’. Hosted at DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama this three day conference will look at various aspects of the musical life of Dublin and Ireland changed after the dramatic events of Easter 1916 with such lectures on ‘Voices of the Rising: Musical Culture in Revolutionary Dublin’, Maria McHale (DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama) and ‘Dance halls, parish halls and marquees: Popular and shared spaces for music and dance practice’, Méabh Ní Fhuartháin (NUI Galway) and many others.
Of particular interest, however, might be a lecture on the music life of Christ Church and St. Patrick’s Cathedrals given by Dr. Kerry Houston (DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama) entitled ‘Utterly changed times: music at St Patrick’s and Christ Church Cathedrals in 1916’.
