At Christ Church, we are always thinking of new ways to improve your experience at the cathedral. Some of our latest additions include:
Our sound installation features technology never used in Ireland before. The installation is wheelchair-accessible and free of charge, available to all visitors on the viewing platform as they enter the grounds. Enjoy an immersive soundscape inspired by the cathedral, as bone-conduction technology delivers sound to your ears from the platform railing.
A bronze sculpture of the medieval cathedral, circa 1370, reconstructed from historical documents and images. Situated on the grounds, the sculpture depicts the cloisters and cathedral buildings as they would have been in the medieval period.
Available from the welcome desk, Christ Church’s audio guides bring the cathedral’s nearly 1,000-year history to life through storytelling.
The audio guides are offered in seven languages: English, French, German, Spanish, Polish, Portugese and Italian. Irish Sign Language and Audio Descriptive tours are also available with English transcriptions.
Visitors can choose from three themes as they explore: ‘Power and Politics’, ‘Christ Church and the City’, and ‘Music and Spirituality’.
Our listening bench in the crypt enables visitors to listen to Christ Church Stories, audio recordings about the life of the cathedral today and of the people who are a part of it.
These stories are recounted in the storytellers’ voices and showcase the vibrancy of modern-day Christ Church and its central role in the life of the city of Dublin.
The stories are available in English, French, Italian, German and Spanish. This bench is wheelchair accessible, and people with hearing aids can listen through an induction handpiece.
We’ve added information posts in the Treasury that reinterpret Christ Church Cathedral’s collection of rare books and silver for a modern audience.

In March 2012, a bizarre story began to unfold when the heart associated with St Laurence O’Toole was stolen from the wall-mounted, metal cage in which it was displayed in the cathedral. Despite international headlines about the overnight theft, the heart was nowhere to be found.
Listen to a clip from our audio guide where the Detective in charge of the case discusses the robbery. Then join us at the cathedral to hear the rest of this fascinating story.
