Cathedral Nights

Pause. Breathe. Pray.

Christ Church Cathedral has previously run a series of special open evenings throughout the year intended to help people make space in their busy day for prayer and reflection. Each evening was unique but they generally included music, readings from scripture and helpful suggestions on how people can make space in their life and creatively engage in prayer.

Information on upcoming Cathedral Nights will be shared on this page, but please also see our calendar, follow the cathedral on social media, and for queries contact ei.hcruhctsirhc@emoclew.

Cathedral Nights: Refuge and Stronghold 2022

‘My refuge and my stronghold, my God, in whom I put my trust.’  Psalm 91:2

A series of reflection evenings took place over four Wednesdays during Lent:

  • 9 March
  • 23 March
  • 30 March
  • 6 April

Each evening ran from 19.00–20.00. The journey through Lent provides an annual opportunity to set aside extra time for reflection and to be open to experiencing renewal. In 2022, as we enjoyed many aspects of the return to ‘normal’ life, there was perhaps also the need to make space to reflect on and to acknowledge how the pandemic had impacted us. In what ways was it easy or difficult to experience God as refuge and stronghold during the events of the last two years? How do we carry the sense of God as refuge and stronghold going forward, in the face of any challenges or difficulties that may come? Each session included lectio divina style reflection on 1-2 of the Sunday lectionary readings, allowing space for silence, sharing and suggestions for prayer.
