The celebration of the Easter Vigil begins at 21:00 in the cathedral nave. Readings from the Old Testament with Collects,
reflecting on the journey of the Israelites in the Exodus to the promised land are read. The choir intersperse the readings
with the singing of psalms. The lighting of the Paschal Fire then takes place outside the west door when the Archbishop blesses the Easter candle. The cantor processes through the darkened cathedral with the lighted candle proclaiming the light coming into the world. The candle is placed in the holder whilst the cantor proclaims the ancient Easter Exultet after which the Eucharist of the resurrection is ushered in by the magnificent singing of the Easter Gloria.
