Admission to the recital is included in the usual entry fee to the Cathedral.
Cabell Midland High School Collegium musicum from Ona, West Virginia is a Renaissance style costumed ensemble of auditioned high school singers in grades 9-12. The ensemble is directed by T. Edwin Harkless, the founder of the group who is in his 39th year of teaching in the Cabell County Schools system. Each year, these singers present up to 443 programs to local civic and church organizations in addition to presenting the Annual Christmas Madrigal Dinner, the CmE (Collegium musicum Experience) in the spring and Holiday and Spring Concerts. They also provide music for graduation. Since 2006, this ensemble has had singers in county, state, regional and national honor choirs.
Additionally, they have traveled each spring since the opening of the school in1994, performing in WV, Ohio, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Boston, Chicago and California. The ensemble has performed at the Washington National Cathedral. They haw won silver and gold in the Heritage Festivals in San Francisco, San Diego and Atlanta. Collegian musicam traveled to Ireland is 2006, performing at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral, Dublin and Knappoque Castle. They returned to Ireland in on performing a joint concert with organist Timothy Waugh at Christ Church Cathedral and Bunratty Castle, returning in 2014 to present a recital performance in Christ Church Cathedral on St Patrick’s Day. Collegium musicum returned to Ireland in 2017 and 2019 again sharing in music at Christ Church and Saint Patrick’s as well as St. Mary’s Cathedral in Killarney.
The group is both excited and honored to be returning to Ireland to visit and perform again at Christ Church Cathedral on March 20 and Bunratty Castle on March 21.
